This organisation was established under the Ministry of Home affairs (Government of Nepal). DOI provides On Arrival Visa (especially tourist visa) to foreign tourists at Tribhuwan International Airport, likewise at other Entry and Exit Point of Nepal boundary with China in the North and India in the South.

What is the validity of Visa obtained from Nepalese Diplomatic Mission abroad?

From the date of the visa issued date, you must enter Nepal within six months. Total stay would be counted from the day you enter into Nepal.

Steps to get On Arrival Visa in Nepal

Step 1: When you first arrive at airport or at Nepal entry point, follow the following simple procedure for Tourist Visa on Arrival.

Fill in ‘Arrival Card’.
You can fill up Online ‘Tourist Visa’ form (it can be fill up prior to your arrival from the official website of Department of Immigration, Nepal/ it can be fill up using Kiosk machines upon arrival at the airport). When Tourist Visa form already filled up from the website then you need to bring print copy of submission receipt with barcode you get when submitting form. The submission receipt with barcode is valid only for 15 days then it would be invalid then after, so need to fill it up again.

Step 2: Make your payment based on your visa requirements (15/30/90 days) and get the receipt. You can use different modes of payments at visa fees collection counter but it would be better carrying some cash to make procedure easier and quicker.

Step 3: Go to the Immigration desk with your ‘Tourist visa’ form/ your online form, payment receipt and your passport. Pass your documents to immigration officer for visa processing. He/she issues visa to you upon his/her satisfaction.

Condition to receive Gratis Visa (Free Visa) in Nepal

Gratis Visa is issued free of cost for the following categories of applicants:

  1. Children below 10 years: Up to 30 days for SAARC citizens (except Afghanistan) once in a given visa Year.
  2. Non Residential Nepalese (NRN) card holders (issued by MoFA/ Nepalese diplomatic missions abroad)
  3. Chinese Nationals
  4. Officials from China, Brazil, Russia and Thailand do not require any Entry Visa based on reciprocal visa waiver agreement.

Note: Visa of all kind including ‘Gratis’ issued in Airport or entry point contact Department of Immigration for extending your visa or changing the category of your visa.

Where to extend Visa?

Tourist Visa extension can be done from Immigration Office, Pokhara too.
Non-touristic visa can be extended only at Department of Immigration (if eligible) for a period for a period of maximum one year (except business visa).

Prohibition to On Arrival Visa in Nepal

Nepal Government is not providing On Arrival Visa to citizen of following 12 nations but officials and diplomatic password holders of those countries can receive on Arrival Visa. Citizen from those 12 countries should receive tourist visa before departure to Nepal from any Nepalese diplomatic mission (Embassies and Consulates).

  3. Zimbabwe
  4. Swaziland
  5. Cameroon
  6. Somalia
  7. Liberia
  8. Ethiopia
  9. Iraq
  10. Palestine
  11. Afghanistan
  12. Syria
  13. Refugees with travel documents
